Speech Pathology

Support for communication, language, eating and drinking, so every child is heard and safe.

Our Speech Pathology team supports children whose communication, feeding or swallowing makes it harder to connect with the people around them. We work with children living with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, genetic and chromosomal conditions, developmental language disorder, and other diagnoses affecting speech, language or feeding. Families often come to us after a diagnosis, a referral from an early childhood service or school, or simply because they've noticed their child isn't communicating the way they expected.

At Boom Kids Clinic, our Speech Pathologists work closely with each family to set goals that matter for everyday life, whether that's a child's first words, a reliable way to communicate through AAC, or eating and drinking safely. We tailor every program to the child and their routine, and we work alongside families, educators and the rest of a child's therapy team so progress made in a session carries through to home and school.

FAQs

Speech Pathology questions, answered

A referral isn't required to book an initial appointment, though your funding type (such as NDIS, Medicare or private health) may have its own requirements. Let us know your situation when you get in touch and we'll guide you through it.

There's no set age. We work with babies through to teenagers, and many families start as soon as a delay or difficulty is noticed, since earlier support often means better outcomes.

This depends entirely on your child's goals and needs. Some children benefit from weekly sessions, others from fortnightly visits or block/intensive programs. We'll recommend a plan after your first assessment.

We ask parents and carers to be very involved. That means helping set the goals for your child, being active in sessions rather than just observing, and practising with your child between appointments. The more involved you are, the better and faster the results tend to be.

Your therapist will give you practical, tailored strategies and a home program designed to fit into your family's everyday routine.
