Group Therapy Programs
Building skills, confidence and connection alongside others.
BOOM group programs bring children together around shared goals, combining targeted therapy with opportunities to practise, participate, problem-solve and connect with others. Programs are designed and led by our allied health team and may involve Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Dietetics or a combination of disciplines.
Individual therapy can be incredibly valuable, but some skills are difficult to practise one-to-one.
Groups create opportunities for children to use what they're learning while interacting with other children, managing different situations and participating in shared activities.
Groups give children opportunities to practise skills with other children, whether that's communicating, taking turns, moving together, completing an activity or solving a problem.
Trying something new alongside peers can help children become more comfortable using their skills beyond an individual therapy session.
Children don't only learn from therapists. Watching, interacting with and responding to other children creates different opportunities for learning and participation.
Groups allow skills to be practised through activities with a real purpose, from games and movement challenges to cooking, creating, communicating and working together.
Children are grouped thoughtfully around the purpose of the program so therapists can target common areas while still considering each child's individual abilities and goals.
Some BOOM groups are multidisciplinary, bringing clinicians from different disciplines together to design and deliver a program around the skills children need.
Sometimes it's one. Sometimes it's both.
Groups aren't designed to replace individual therapy when one-to-one support is what a child needs.
For some children, a group provides an opportunity to take skills developed individually and practise them with peers. For others, a targeted group may be the right therapy option on its own.
Our team can help families decide whether individual therapy, group therapy or a combination would best support their child's current goals.
