Finishing university is exciting. But starting your first role can also come with a lot of questions and uncertainty.
That's exactly why we created the BOOM Launchpad.
The BOOM Launchpad is our structured graduate development program designed to support your transition from university into clinical practice.
Rather than expecting you to arrive ready for a full caseload, your first 12 months are intentionally staged. Your caseload, clinical responsibilities and independence grow as your skills and confidence grow, with experienced people around you at every stage.
You'll always know what you're working towards, what comes next and where to go when you need support. And at 12 months? We're not finished. Your graduate year is simply the launchpad for where you want your career to go next.
Before your first day
Your BOOM journey starts before you walk through the doors. Starting your first professional role is a big change, so before Day 1 we'll get you connected with BOOM, your clinic and the people who'll support you.
You'll know who your key support people are, what to expect in your first weeks, how your graduate year and caseload will progress, and where to go with questions. So when Day 1 arrives, you're ready to start, not walking into the unknown.
Months 0–3 | Build your foundations
This is where it all begins. Your first few months are deliberately designed to give you time to learn, observe, practise and ask questions, you won't walk in on Monday and inherit a full caseload.
You'll observe experienced clinicians, take part in structured training and begin working with carefully selected clients, with your caseload growing as your skills and confidence do, backed by clinical supervision, your Team Leader and the wider BOOM team.
The goal isn't to make you independent as quickly as possible, it's to build strong foundations so you can become a confident, capable clinician.
Months 3–6 | Put it into practice
You've found your feet, now it's time to build momentum. During Take Off, you'll manage a broader caseload and take greater ownership of your clinical decisions, while continuing to have experienced clinicians around you when you need them.
Your learning becomes increasingly connected to the children you're working with, with chances to discuss cases, problem-solve with other disciplines and build new skills. As your capability grows, so does your independence, but that never means less support.
Months 6–12 | Discover the clinician you're becoming
Somewhere along the way, something changes. You're contributing ideas in case discussions, recognising what a child needs and explaining your clinical reasoning to families, those are your BOOM Moments.
During Impact, we'll help you consolidate your clinical skills while exploring the areas of practice that interest you most, whether that's advanced clinicians, specialised training or complex cases. By the end of your first year, you'll be able to look back and see how far you've come.
12 months and beyond
Graduation from our graduate program isn't the end of your development at BOOM, it's the beginning of your next chapter. As you approach the end of the Launchpad, we'll work with you to identify what you'd like to achieve next.
Your next BOOM might mean deeper clinical expertise in an area like AAC, feeding or physical disability, or it could mean becoming a senior clinician, supervising others, or moving into leadership. There isn't one pathway you're expected to follow, we'll help you build yours.
A support network that grows with you
At BOOM, support doesn't come from one person or one supervision session. You're surrounded by a network of experienced clinicians, Team Leaders, peers and mentors who you can learn from, problem-solve with and turn to when you need another perspective.
The aim is simple: you should always have people around you who can help you keep learning, challenge your thinking and take your next step.
